at Brands
Richard Westbrook
completed a perfect weekend at Brands Hatch by winning the feature
race of the Porsche Michelin Carrera Cup GB today (Monday 25 August).
Jason Templeman battled ahead of Barry Horne to take second, but
Westbrook was out of reach at the head of the race.
Westbrook
led from the start and stayed ahead to add to his win in Sunday’s
sprint race. Initially, Horne chased hard with Templeman and David
Cuff making it a four-car lead train, but Westbrook was able to
steadily stretch his margin. “I love it here,” said
Westbrook after his fourth Brands win of the season. “This
track is brilliant for me,” he added after spraying the champagne
on the podium.
Attention now turned to the contest for second as Templeman closed
in on Horne and started to attack. Just before half distance, Horne
slid wide at Druids and Templeman grabbed his chance to claim second.
Once ahead, Templeman went after Westbrook and brought the gap down
to little more than a second in the closing stages, but Westbrook
kept his cool for a superb victory. “This was a good race
for us,” reckoned Templeman after pulling well clear of Horne,

In
fact, Horne had to watch his mirrors for Cuff until the BCR racer
was held up lapping another car and lost any chance of challenging
for third. “It seemed to be the same problem again,”
said Horne after finding his car’s handling going away in
the second half of the race.
Jonathon Cocker quickly slotted into a secure fifth and was able
to close in on Cuff over the closing laps, and by the flag there
was less than a second between them. Into sixth came Jonathan Rowland,
but it had been Gary Britnell in an excellent sixth for much of
the race before spinning off at Graham Hill Bend with 10 laps to
run.
The result leaves Horne at the head of the championship race, but
his lead over Westbrook is now down to 27 points while Templeman
is just five points down on Westbrook with four races still to run.
